The best places to stay on the Bay of Kotor
Here is an overview of the best places to stay in the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) region in Montenegro:
- Kotor - As the largest town with the most volume of interesting things to explore, Kotor has the most accommodation options, from hostels to luxury hotels. It's centrally located for exploring the bay. Staying in the Old Town area of Kotor puts you right in the historic heart of Kotor.
- Perast - A charming coastal village known for its beautiful Baroque architecture and churches. Staying in Perast allows easy access to nearby islands. Accommodation includes boutique hotels, guesthouses and private rentals.
- Tivat - A larger town on the innermost part of the bay, close to Tivat Airport. Better for families looking for apartments than small-town charm. Cheaper option than Kotor.
- Herceg Novi - On the entrance to the bay, Herceg Novi has a relaxed Mediterranean vibe. Cheaper than Kotor, with rooms facing the old town or sea. Further from other bay towns.
- Dobrota - A small village surrounded by pine forests, good for an escape from crowds. Offers private apartment rents ideal for independent travelers.
- Risan - Historic town known for its ancient Roman mosaics. Rustic family-run pensions and apartments are basic but low-cost.
Another option is Muo, a charming village in Kotor, Montenegro, located on the west side of the bay. It has great views of the bay and surrounding mountains, which makes it a great place to stay to have a an amazing view. Plus, its history as a fishermen settlement adds to its charm of the place.
Where to stay is based on your personal preferences.
